Students will also learn what the Caldecott Medal is.  They will "adopt" a gold and silver medal winner to share with everyone.  They will read their book and write a short summary about it.  They will also fill out "adoption papers" about their book where they will write the name of the book, author and illustrator of the book and when it won the Caldecott Medal.  Because the Caldecott Medal books win for the pictures, the students will draw their favorite picture from the book using the Appleworks drawing program.  They will also type their "adoption paper" information. Their pictures will be printed out in color and placed next to their adoption paper printout on colored construction paper.

Fourth Grade Overview

Fourth graders begin the school year by researching a president.  They draw a president's name out of a basket.  Each student are handed a research worksheet of information to find out about their president.  They will use the Internet and books to fill out their research worksheets.  They will create a president tent sharing information about their president.

Next students will choose a partner to research a natural disaster and create a Powerpoint presentation about it.  The student groups will receive a paper version of their Powerpoint presentation to take notes on.  They will use the Internet to locate information about their natural disaster.  They will then create a Powerpoint presentation where they type their information it, change the background and add pictures.  Their Powerpoint presentations will be published on the Lo-Ma web site.

They will then spend time learning about Internet safety.  They will create Wordles about words they learned when discussing it.

I will help students locate information and pictures for their Iowa history project.
